The Warlow "safety rest area" was closed for almost a full year
while the state totally dozed the old buildings and then
constructed state-of-the-art new ones and totally renovated the
entire rest area. It's actually quite a nice place now to take a
restroom break, stretch the legs and/or even cop a little rest
before continuing your travels up/down Hwy 99 through the central
valley. The Warlow rest area is only one of three such places along
Hwy 99... the other two being south of Tulare and clear up in
Turlock. Of the three rest areas it is the largest along Hwy 99 and
possibly one of the largest in the state.
The rest area is accessible to either northbound or southbound
travelers. Since it is so huge I felt that it could use a couple of
extra caches to compliment Tom&Si's original cache and make it
worth the while for geocaching travelers to stop and pick up three
caches in one setting. Enjoy the stretch and the rest as you hunt
for all three caches in this rest area.
Cache is located near the entrance to the rest area. There is no
parking at the GZ but a short stroll from the regular parking area
will take to through grassy areas and areas planted with California
poppies. It's a good place to walk the geo-dog or let the geo-kids
burn off some extra energy. An extraction device might be required
to remove this thin cache from it's hiding hole.
