Geocache Description:

This cache is located near a World War 2 Bunker and takes you hiking (short) along an anti-tank ditch.

This cache is located in Vrøgum plantation, established to prevent sand migration in the late 18 hundreds and early 19 hundreds.

Close to the cache is an observation bunker from World War 2. There are a few bunkers in the plantation, all part of a defense system designed to prevent allied troops from entering. Normally there would be a "Panzerplatte" to block the observationslide, but this has been removed. There are 6 more of these buildings in the whole military training area.

To get to the cache, you should walk along an “anti tank ditch” that was made to stop tanks. These ditches were made by Danish workers for the Germans. The ditch had an angle at the bottom, which would make the tank’s nose dig into the ground and deep enough to prevent them from backing up. They would become sittings ducks.

The ditch has eroded; it is not that deep anymore. Also fallen trees add to the experience. While walking in ditch and entering the bunker, imagine who build all this – the workers and the soldiers and the life they may have had.

There are no records of battles in the area, so the markings on the bunker’s concrete surface is probably ice cracks – or is it …

This place is off the beaten track and a place you’d probably wouldn’t come across by chance – but that all adds to the experience, right?

I hope you enjoy the area and the hike as much as I do.
