A Memorial Day placement to bring you to a Memorial. It didn't come
from a chicken, but maybe a bunny..... (See end of Long Desc. for
updates One, Two, and Three) (UPDATE FOUR 4-30-2011: Changed out
cache container as tin M&M was leaking and getting wet inside.
Replaced log, etc.)
This is a memorial to the brave men who went to war for what they
believed in. Fought the good fight, and survived the horror of war,
only to never make it back home. It is one of those little bits of
history that isn't pretty or glamorous, but needs to be remembered
just the same for what we can learn from it, and as the background
for other local events of the time.
As you enter to view the memorial, use the 'Good' road to the right
of center that has the "Tour" sign beside it. (The cemetary of
course is only open during daylight hours. NEW: Posted closing time
is 7:00pm.) The waypoint TURN is the best way to the memorial from
this road. You may want to note the tree in the island just beyond
TURN. There is a special memorial there, but it is not part of this
memorial tour. (Slightly morbid, you may want to skip this.)
At the memorial parking is about the circle, please use good
judgement.
Congratulations to ibwacko for FTF!
(UPDATE: Original container was a plastic Easter Egg, had to be
replaced due to leaks) (UPDATE TWO 11-20-2010: Second cache
replacement due to being muggled. Not an egg this time, but....)
(UPDATE THREE 4-24-2011: Cache hiding location required to be moved
farther into cemetery due to VDOT letter, see long description for
restrictions)
