Geocache Description:

The cache is located at the listed coordinates! It is the closest cache to Butte Creek Falls.

To log this cache you must find at least eight caches that are associated with major water falls within the Molalla River Watershed before logging this cache. Major falls, for the purposes of this challenge, are those that are named, or fall at least 20 feet. For the cache to count as associated it must mention the falls in the cache title or description.

Please feel free to post any pictures of your waterfall adventures when logging this cache.

The Molalla River has no major falls along the named course of the river, it manages to stay behind the major fall-forming basalt as it runs south to north before turning to the west as it leaves the Cascades, flows to the north of the town of Molalla, and then swiftly flows across the valley to discharge into the Willamette west of Canby. Many of it's tributaries have famous falls of water as they cascade over hard basalt.

Starting at the south end of the watershed we have Drift Creek Falls.

Of Course there is Silver Creek with the mighty North and South Falls and all the other grand falls of that valley. Silver Creek joins it's flow with Abiqua Creek and then into the sedate Pudding River that then meanders across the valley from Salem to join the Molalla just before the Willamette.

The Abiqua's major fall is Abiqua Falls, a difficult to find jewel that drops into a columular basalt cathederal. Trinity Falls and Homestead Falls are located on creeks of the same name that empty into the Abiqua

Next is Butte Creek with McKay Falls in Scott's Mills (this fall was tapped to power the mill), Upper Mckay Falls, and then further up stream you have an easy hike to Upper Butte Creek Falls, Butte Creek Falls, and Lower Butte Creek Falls. If you get the viewpoint for Butte Creek Falls you can peek over the edge of the cliff and see the top of the lower falls.

One of Butte Creek's tributaries is Fall Creek that boasts a fall of around 60 foot.

Finally is the mighty Molalla, although there are no falls on the river itself, many of it's minor tributaries have named and un-named falls that cross the basalt fall line. Shotgun Falls is a short scramble from Party Rock, Aquila Falls is a long trek but worth the hike.

The cache is an ammo box that is in a "U" shaped stump that is two feet off of the trail leading to the viewpoint for Butte Creek Falls, recover cache with moss. NO BUSHWHACKING!

See my bookmark list of waterfall caches that would count towards your eight.
