Wigwam To Wetland EarthCache

This cache has been archived.

2Dee2Dee: I'm archiving ALL of 2Dee2Dee's geocaches. It's been a wild ride, now up to someone else to use my locations if you wish. I am no longer able to service nor maintain any cache.

Geocache Description:

Parking available a short distance on either side of the restoration project site. Just a pleasant walk around the location so you can view the Wigwam to Wetland project and learn about this historic site on Commencement Bay.

Tacoma Area Geology
Airborne laser mapping confirms that Holocene active faults traverse the Puget Sound metropolitan area, northwestern continental United States. The mapping, which detects forest-floor relief of as little as 15 cm, reveals scarps along geophysical lineaments that separate areas of Holocene uplift and subsidence. Along one such line of scarps, it was found that a fault warped the ground surface between A.D. 770 and 1160. This reverse fault, which projects through Tacoma, Washington, bounds the southern and western sides of the Seattle uplift. The northern flank of the Seattle uplift is bounded by a reverse fault beneath Seattle that broke in A.D. 900–930.

15,000 years ago much of the Puget Sound west of Mount Rainier was covered with a continental glacier over 1000 m (3300 ft) deep.

The GSA, who approves EarthCaches, requires that you do a little geology research and learn something new about your planet.

FIRST send acceptable answers BY EMAIL to the following questions offline, checking the box to include YOUR reply email address, BEFORE posting a found log. You can find our email address at our profile. (I will NOT reply nor communicate through the Message Center).
THEN, immediately go ahead and temporarily log your find while waiting for verification.

Some offsite geological research may be necessary.
If your answers are unacceptable or not submitted then your log may be temporarily removed until you can rectify the problem.

1. What was being destroyed at this site that provided a reason for this cooperative restoration project?
2. Describe the use of the Wigwam at this site.
3. New requirement: Name who provided the wetland restoration funding for this project and the year from the plaque on boardwalk. (Previous question plaque destroyed and removed: Name 3 of the 7 local plants being reintroduced by this restoration project.)
4. What geologic feature observed along the Tacoma fault indicates that active faults pose a significant hazard in the Puget Sound region? (This is the important question that requires you to do a bit of earthcache required geology research)
5. It is requested that also you either optionally post a proof of find photo of you or your GPS having fun near the site or submit other proof of find information that you were actually at the site for verification.
