Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Lower Rouge walking Path.

This area is a nice, moderate-terrain hike from either Military Street to the West, or Dearborn's Ford Field Park to the East, near Monroe & Morley Ave's.  Vehicle Parking is more plentiful at Ford Field, whereas Military Ave. is a longer hike from legal parking.

The walking path follows the Lower Rouge River and most of the path is a well-worn dirt path.  The last 60-100' maybe rougher terrain for some, easier for others.

The geocache area is easily accessible from the walking path, please DO NOT try to access the Cache location via way of Private Property.

To access the path from the East,. go behind the picnic shelter, along the the west side of the pond.  Due to heavy rain/snow, this area may be flooded as well.

Summertime or warmer weather, BUG SPRAY is a MUST and the bugs are horrendous.

February 1, 2020, this hide had to be "elevated" (now about 6.5' up in the crook of a dead tree) and relocated a bit so it survives the area.  Much of the area has been ravaged by the flooding of the Rouge when it overflowed its banks in the last few months.  Originally, this was a medium "Lock & Lock" type container, tethered to a tree.  Now it is about the same size as the L&L, and is a clean recycled snack container, wrapped in black duct-tape.

The original theme to this hide was "Stars & Stripes" or "Red, White, and Blue" -themed items.  The Feb 2020 container lid does have Red/White/Blue on it, and its been refilled with some goodies for the kids, or adults, who wish to trade items out.

Please trade equal and/or fairly.

Thanks to Matt and Leah for the original hide here, and out of respect for the longevity of the hide, the original cache-page text is below.

Original text to this page as follows:

Nice, moderate-terrain hike from Dearborn's Ford Field Park along the Lower Rouge River. Majority of the walk is on a well-worn dirt path, except the last 50-100 feet. Our 4 1/2 year-old had no problem following along.

The Stars_And_Stripes cache is filled with all red, white, and blue themed goodies. Feel free to swap some Americana treats! It is a medium lock and lock conatiner, tethered to its hiding spot. Please DO NOT walk through private property to reach this cache. It is easily accessible from the path along the river. Ample parking at the Ford Field Park (Monroe Street and Morley Ave). Pick up the walking trail behind the picnic shelter, to the the left (on the west side of the pond). The trail may be inaccessible after heavy rain or snow. BUG SPRAY IS A MUST, during mosquito season! May have to zig-zag around some soupy areas that surround the cache. Area might be muddy. Please be sure the cache is tucked away snugly and well camouflaged.
