In an effort to bring more caches to this area, the Eastwood Area Cache Series is being started. These are caches that are either in or very close to the Eastwood School District area. These caches will highlight important places with historical reference or places that were just important while growing up. Have fun.
Welcome to the area that USED to be Myers Cemetery. From the cache site, look down the ravine to your right and that’s where the old cemetery was. No bodies are still there. With talking to local historians about this area, I was told that the last burial here was in the late 1850’s. Apparently, John Y. Fish witnessed a watery burial here where poles had to be used to hold the floating coffin down while the grave was filled with dirt. This moved him to sell one acre of his farm ground for $25.00 to Freedom Township on January 14, 1858 for what is now known as Fish Cemetery down the road. After that, all the coffins were exhumed and re-interred there.
On to the cache. You are searching for a magnetic Hide-A-Key. No great FTF prizes here. Just the satisfaction of being first. Happy hunting.
Congrats to Jimmy System for FTF honors!
