The cache is an ammo can hidden at a great view spot above the beach at Derby Cove. Be cautious near GZ; don’t make a dive if you don’t intend to! There is a nice Geocoin, a $10 giftcard for the FTF, and an array of trade goods available, so come and see!
This cache will be another reason to hike out to Caines Head, or to stop by with a boat. The "trail" is actually the beach for the last 2.5 miles, and is accessible only at low tide. Begin hiking from the trailhead on Lowell Point approximately 2 hours before low tide, and you should be fine. Be careful not to step on rocks covered by bright green algae; they are very slick. Only by running the beach could you make a round trip without waiting for the next low tide, so take the time to explore Fort McGilvray above Caines Head while you wait, or camp and stay for a bit in this fantastic State Park.
There are two cabins available for rent from the State Parks: the Derby Cove Cabin, and the Callisto Canyon Cabin just a little ways north. Both are accessible by the beach or by boat drop-off. The water taxi at Miller’s Landing can easily help you make the trip, take your own skiff or kayak, or make the beach walk.
