Geocache Description:

A fairly easy cache located along Hwy 20 going North towards Sisters

This cache is located away from busy Hwy 20. There is no need to go over the barb-wire fence or across the Hwy. Please stay on the East side of the Hwy. This can be a very busy place at times, so please use stealth. The view of the mountains is best obtained in the morning when the sun is rising from the East and shines all over the Three Sisters. The following information is from the reader board located North of the cache... This view of the Three Sisters and their neighbors to the North and South are mentioned in some of Oregon's earliest recorded history. Many explorers passed this way in the early 1800's. Peter Skene Ogden, Hudson Bay Company traders and explorers, encountered this view in December 1825. Botanist David Douglas followed in October 1826. John C. Fremont was nearby in December 1843, following ancient Indian trails on his Southern exploration into Nevada and California. Lieutenant H.L. Abbot of the Pacific Railroad Surveys wrote of this view in his journal on September 4th, 1855. "This morning after riding a few miles, we emerged from the forest, and traversed an elevated plateau dotted with cedars (junipers) and sage bushes... The air was uncommonly clear and pure... The snow peaks of the Three Sisters appeared quite near." It is not known who first used the name Three Sisters to describe these peaks. In the early day, they were often referred to as Faith, Hope and Charity. Starting from the North. These names, however, did not prevail. I hope you enjoy my geo-cache and please put back exactly as you found it. Bring your own writing utensil. Happy Caching!!!
