Nesting in the Wetlands Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

pathtrackers: Sorry but the nature center has informed us they want all caches removed from their land so we will be removing this cache soon. we are not happy with the way they are handling this. Our cache has been in this spot for several years and many cachers have enjoyed finding it. we are sorry to see it go.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Chippewa Nature Center wetlands just off the Chippewa Trail. There is a parking lot located on Grey Road just off of Pine River Road for this cache. The cache is an ammo can and should be accessible year round. While you are there, check out our other cache Shed Antler Cache.

We are dedicating this cache to Lucy our front porch cement goose. Lucy unlike her living geese relatives gets to change her looks periodically. She likes to dress in brightly colored outfits. As her relatives are flying over our house they always honk as if saying, Hi Lucy. Canadian Geese were eliminated from Michigan in the 1900's and reintroduced in the 1930's on federal refuges and to local and state lands in the 1960's and 1970's.

As previously thought not all Canadian Geese migrate. Some will migrate to the south and some are permanent residents. In our area the geese are as common as our deer and turkey.

Nesting in Wetlands is quite easy to get to when following the paved Chippewa Trail. When following the trail please take time to notice the turtles in the turtle pond, and the snakes on the trail sunning themselves. You should also see several pairs of geese nesting in the marsh area, and if you are lucky you may see swans.
