It's in Eglinton Country Park - plenty of parking! Head up to the old colliery and onwards to the other end of the old railway tunnel. Watch out for brambles and nettles in their season - nothing representing a challenge to a true Geocacher!
The colliery closed in the 1930s. The buildings were partly demolished and then consolidated by Irvine Development Corporation, but then they were entirely demolished by NAC in 2011/12.
The old railway tunnel is padlocked (usually), but the Rangers may be able to let you in. The tunnel is short and cosmetic - t'was only built to hide the coal trains from the castle and to keep soot off the Earl's greenhouses at the walled garden.
The tunnel was used as a bomb shelter in WW2 and to store valuable furniture, etc.
