Grange over Sands was developed around 1800, shortly after the railway was built, as a holiday resort and spa for Lancashire business people. Prior to this Grange was a small fishing village cut off by marshes to the north, the sands of Morecambe Bay to the East and South and the steep hill of Hampsfell to the west. As well as being a peaceful and well kept haven near to the town centre, Park Road Gardens is a popular venue for events and concerts. The bandstand was moved from the promenade because ladies were complaining that soot from the passing steam engines was damaging their clothes.
Free 1 hour parking is available on adjacent streets but please do not park on the main road.
