Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches in and around the town of Wallingford. The well known crime writer Agatha Christie owned a house in the town and spent her later years there. All the caches in this series are named after her books or stories in them.

The villages of Aston Tirrold and Aston Upthorpe are very close to each other – in fact so close it’s very difficult to know which is which! Each has its own Parish Church (which you will visit during this cache) and there is also another church behind which is a venue whose name suggested the title of this cache. We hope you enjoy exploring this lovely place.

This cache is reasonably accessible for buggies but parents with small children will need to take care as there is a lot of walking on village roads which have no footpaths – presumably because there is very little traffic. Watch out for stray tennis balls – Tim Henman is rumoured to live here!

The above coordinates are for a good place to park. From here head north to the first waypoint where you will need to find the evidence that this is one of the oldest buildings in the village. Its date is CD86

Further along this main road is one of the parish churches. Entering from the eastern side of the churchyard you will see a row of headstones lining the path. The number that are fully or partly visible is R.

Continue along the road to the northern end of the villages where there is a means of communicating with the outside world. Its code number is OX11 11E8

Now go south into the heart of the community. Two things to find here – the number of miles to Wantage is Q and the number of miles to Streatley is P

Just two more questions to answer – at the second parish church look carefully to find the number of doorways. This is S. Then it’s a fairly short walk the third church to find out in what year did the ‘Champion of Africa’ die? 19FG.

The cache is located close by at
N51.A.B W001.CD.EFG
where A = RxS - P and B = R x (P + Q) – 2S

The cache is a small loc n loc box in a camo bag

From the cache location, continue southeast back to the parking spot.
