Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches in and around the town of Wallingford. The well known crime writer Agatha Christie owned a house in the town and spent her later years there. All the caches in this series are named after her books or stories in them.

The village of South Moreton was once the home of the writer Hilaire Belloc - his son, Peter, is listed on the war memorial tablet inside the church, which is (sadly) normally locked. It is also said to be the place where blotting paper was invented (you may see a road with a related name). Today the village has two churches, a pub (currently closed for renovation having been bought by the local community) and a school – and not much else; but we hope you enjoy this short exploration of it. This cache is reasonably accessible for buggies but parents with small children will need to take care as there is some walking on footpaths at the side of the village road which can be busy. There is plenty of space to park along this road. The starting point for this cache is the building which inspired the cache title. How many letters are in its name? This is A Now to the village chapel – it seems you have to behave here! It was founded in the year BCDE Across the road is Home Farm – on the wall is a wooden sign which carries a warning – how many times does the letter ‘S’ appear on the sign? This is F At the other end of the farm is a footpath which squeezes between the houses. Follow this to see the site of a former mill. The Parish Church is the next stop. Look out for the huge yew tree which is said to date from Saxon times. Carefully explore the graveyard until you find the Hedges memorial. In what year was Andrew Philip Hedges born – 19GH Head back towards the main road along Church Lane then look for a building which commemorates a King. But which George is it? The answer is J. The cache is located at N51.GH.EAE W001.(C+D).F(J-B)(B-1) The cache is a small screw-top container about the size of a film canister. Any muggles nearby are likely to be 4-legged!
