This cache is one of Discovery Educators’ themed caches. The theme is the “Deadliest Catch.” It is being launched here in Connellsville, near the Youghiogheny River, which is popular for recreational fishing. The Youghiogheny River has brown and rainbow trout, as well as smallmouth bass. The cache is located near the Youghiogheny River and near the Yough Park in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. The container is a green fishing tackle box containing a logbook and pen, Discovery prizes, prizes for the kids, and small fishing items. It also is launching a Discovery Travel Bug. The travel bug has a Discovery-themed mission including traveling to at least three states, spending time near a zoo and library, and returning near Discovery Communications in Silver Spring, MD within a year.
The Youghiogheny River rises in northern West Virginia, in Preston County southeast of the village of Kingwood and near Backbone Mountain. It flows NNE into Garrett County, Maryland, flowing north past Oakland, Maryland. This river enters southwestern Pennsylvania on the border between Fayette and Somerset counties. It flows northwest through a gap in Chestnut Ridge and then past Connellsville. It joins the Monongahela from the southeast at McKeesport, southeast of Pittsburgh.
The Youghiogheny River is also popular for whitewater kayaking, rafting, canoeing, and swimming.
Beware of muggles and replace the cache where you found it. This cache is kid friendly so you can bring your youngsters along for the fun. Have a fun day geocaching with your friends and family!
