Once word of the 1877 gold strike in Mineral Hill leaked out, fortune hunters and prospectors flocked in to take advantage of the bonanza. During the following two years, over 2500 people took up residence in Mammoth City and Pine City (located on the other side of Mineral Hill).

The old stamp mill, which was powered by a half-mile flume fed by water from Twin Lakes, crushed ore from the mines (located up in Mammoth Rock). The gold strike was substantial, but the re-investments into the stampmill, flume, and rails ate up most of the profits. The Mammoth Mining Company shut down its mill early in 1889, and the company stock became worthless.

You'll be looking for a 6 x 6 Tupperware container, with a logbook, pen and pencil plus some cool trade items for your fair trading pleasure.

Good luck & Happy caching!
