ALICE M. HEMPHILL SANCTUARY, ESTABLISHED 2006
"THIS LAND IS DEDICATED TO ALICE M. HEMPHILL, A PASSIONATE ENVIRONMENTALIST AND LONG TIME
RESIDENT OF MANASQUAN, AND TO ALL THOISE WHO HAVE SUPPORTED OPEN SPACE AND ENVIRONMENTAL CAUSES WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY.
Walk down to the water and see Stockton Lake.
Sad to say that Alice died at age 96 on 9/28/2010. Now her "spot" will really be hers to honor her. In October, 2010 3rd grade students from local St. Denis school planted 96 daffodils and put their sentiments in a time capsule also planted there in memory of Alice. Spring, 2011 should be a pretty sight. The SANDY superstorm flooded the area in October, 2012...Vegetation will eventually rebound.
