Geocache Description:

SHORT DESCRIPTION:

A simple traditional cache. Stealth required. Difficulty rating due to muggles.

LONG DESCRIPTION:

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE COINS OR TRACKABLES UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE! (Sadly, this is the 4th Brighton cache that I have had to ‘downsize’ due to muggle magpies. You are now looking for a micro with no capacity for swaps.)

According to legend, Sir Francis Drake was playing bowls at Plymouth Hoe in 1588 when warned of the approach of the Spanish Armada. He is famously quoted as saying “There’s time to finish the game and beat the Armada”. Nice story, but there’s little to back it up. In fact, some say that rather than bowls he may have enjoyed playing boule (or petanque) with small metal cannon balls on gravel – tossing the balls rather than rolling them. Others suggest that he knew the tide would prevent his ships from being able to sail straight away. Whatever the truth – it works well as a story and leads us to this cache location…

You are at a public boule area which is home to the Brighton and Hove Petanque Club. (visit link)
Why not bring your own cannon balls and have a go?! You can find rules here. (visit link)
Playing a game might also be good cover for entering the arena ;-)

Stealth required as this can be a busy location. Difficulty rating due to muggles.

The Cache:
You are looking for a small, spherical container.
There is also a back-up cache due to muggle activity.

Contents when originally placed:
Lifeboat toy
Flounder the fish
Steam boat pencil sharpener
Golden Hind sharpener and rubber (Drake’s ship)
TB – Compass, whistle and light "Zera he goes..."
Log book and pencil
