Geocache Description:

Public art shares expression, culture, landmarks, and history. This three part multi-stage offset cache will bring you in close contact with objects of art; realistic, folk, and modern. Enjoy an artsy tour in and around historic downtown Juneau.

The posted coordinates take you to a sculpture. The hunt requires you to visit two locations in sequence to gain coordinates to the final.

Locate the monument with descriptive information found near the art object to begin your search. The coordinates for object #2,

N 58 1A.BCD W 134 2E.FGH

are derived from answering these questions:

A = The height of the object divided by two
B = The year it became property of the Alaska State Museum, forth digit
C = The year removed from its original location, third digit
D = A + 1
E = How many tons, minus one
F = Number of letters in the name of the object
G = The year the object was commissioned, third digit minus fourth digit
H = E times two

At that next location, you’ll again locate a description of the object. The coordinates for the 3rd and final art object are...

N 58 1P.QRS W 134 2T.UVV

derived from answering these questions:

P = Alaska celebrated its 25th Birthday as a state in what year, third digit
Q = Number of teeth on the lower jaw of the sculpture’s prey, minus 4
R = Number of teeth on the upper jaw of the sculpture’s prey
S = Number of letters in the last name of the artist
T = Alaska celebrated its 25th Birthday as a state in what year, fourth digit
U = Square root of 9
VV = The name of the object, count the total letters.

The route between objects should bring you close to many prominent local buildings and museums. The route should give visitors a respite from the gift shops.

A little trivia. The first object was formally located very near the second object, but not at the same time.

The cache container can hold small TBs, coins, and small tchotchkes. It has a log and a pencil.

Please don’t post photos of the art objects noted at each location. If you find other art objects in Juneau, please post those photos.
