Constructed as a WPA project in 1936, this natural stone armory was home for the 179th Infantry Regiment of the Army's 45th Division, mobiled in September, 1940. This valiant group of men served in North Africa, Sicily, France and Central Europe during WWII and in Korea in 1950.

The building was given to the City of Edmond in 1972 and housed the Edmond Parks and Recreation Department until 1983. From that time, it has been occupied by the Edmond Historical Society. The building was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1991.

((( While at this historic park, drive or walk to the West side where you will find the historic Rodkey House. Built In 1900 by Isaac W. Rodkey and his wife, Catherine, this home is currently the oldest existing house in Edmond. In December 2007, the house was moved from 30 E. Campbell to its new permanent location in Stephenson Park. Eventually it will be opened to the public as a museum. Isaac Rodkey and his partner, George Farrar purchased an existing flour mill in 1897 and named it Eagle Milling Company. In 1914, Rodkey bought out his partner, hired his son, Earl A. Rodkey and renamed the business Rodkey Flour Mill. For years it was the largest employer in the town of Edmond. The mill site can still be seen on 3rd Street, west of Broadway and the name Rodkey Flour Mill is still painted at the top of the stack, although it is now home of Dwain's Automotive.)))
