WARNING: This is one of the toughest hikes I have done. Anyone who has tried some of my more difficult caches should shudder in their boots so everyone should take this hike seriously.
Please bring adequate water, food and emergency gear on this hike. Go to speedhikers.com for more info on gear. It took us 9 hours to get there and back and we are fast. The park board recommends 14 hours to do it and I think this is an accurate time for most hikers. Remember that the park closes at 9pm.
How to get there:
I am starting the description from the location of "5 Post Rock" cache since it is a good trail to this point. Just after the cache the trail is marked mostly with orange tape and in some area is very hard to follow.
Continue along the trail till you encounter a small creek. You are about 1.5 KM from Lynne Lake if you where a bird so you have a long way to go still. Cross it and follow the orange tape markers. After crossing the small creek please try and keep on the right of the river even though you will see orange flags on the other side. In the long run the markers on the other side of the creek bring you back to where you will end up if you stay on the right of the river.
You will have to navigate rocks along the bank of the river and in a couple of cases you may want to climb up the bank and continue along in the bush, but you always end up back on the bank of the river.
Keep going up the river for what seems a long time. When we did it we eventually came to a big snow landslide that we had to to climb over and travel along, so if you do not see the snow keep going up the river.
You are now at Lynne Creek and the trail continues along to your right. However the river has eaten its way through the rock to create a big gully. Find a way to cross to the other side and when on the other side take the trail along the creek (we took a snow bridge across but the waterfall looked good too). This part of the trail will seem easy compared to going along the river. Cross the landslide area and keep going along the trail by following the orange tape and yellow tree markers.
About the cache:
Ammo can painted green camouflage. Lots of goodies inside. Please place back where you found it and cover the cache with bark. The GPS was a bit jumpy so look for the tree with orange survey tape wrapped around it 3 times. You are within 5 meter of the cache.
