When Gothenburg grew in the 17th century a lot of shipyards on the other side of the river equiped ships for the Estindian company
which was a trading company owned by the wealthy families in Gothenburg.

One of their ships named Götheborg ended up on a reef and sunk just outside the harbour after a long trip to China in 1745.
The ship had a cargo of porcelain and tea which normally gave good profit. Some of the cargo could be salvaged from the wreck with primitive equipment like a diving bell and some of the porcelain could be picked up during diving around 1995.

In the middle of 1990 money were collected and building of a Replica ship based on the drawing of the old ship could start.
During 10 years of hard work and a tuff financial situation they built the ship Göteborg III.
The ship has of cause modern navigation and communication equipment aboard as well as engine.
The ship were launched in 2003 and has since made a trip to China. and to other countries to give our city a name in the world.
Last year they took her to Stocholm to have "something" to show at the wedding!!!
