The posted coordinates are the center of the last town affected by one of the greatest natural disasters to befall Massachusetts. The final cache is within 2 miles of this point. The placement date of this cache is the anniversary of this event.
You are to visit several locations significant to this event and compare photos taken at that time. They are spread over a distance that will require about 20 miles of driving. Clues uncovered at each can be assembled into the solution that will lead you to a very appropriate location for the final container. There you will verify your discovery and collect a momento of this hunt. This is a log only cache so please don't leave any trade items or trackables.
Please visit each of the five waypoints and compare the picture taken on the date of the event to what is there now. Find the clue and fill in the table below. The lowercase letters represent digits or letters that you will find. The uppercase letters are to remain fixed as is and are part of the clue. The “x”’s are to remain fixed and are also part of the clue. The answers will give you the final location of the cache and tell you how to access it.

Waypoint 1: Quinsigimond Community College
This photo is of the main building of Assumption College right after the event. The provided coordinates are just north of this building in front of a QCC dormitory. Here you will find a monument listing the 90 victims. Please locate the name of the victim with the given initials from the specified town.
Count the number of letters in their last name, and add/subtract the correction.
This will give you letters ‘abcde’.
Initials EW from Barre # of letters in last name -5 to get 'a'
Initials DM from Rutland # of letters in last name -4 to get 'b'
Initials LH from Holden# of letters in last name +1 to get 'c'
Initials WH from Worcester # of letters in last name -1 to get 'd'
Initials BH from Shrewsbury # of letters in last name -1 to get 'e'
Waypoint 2: 78 Brandon Street
This photo is of the home at 78 Brandon Street which suffered damage from the event. See if you can spot the repaired brick in the chimney.
At a nearby telephone pole #10, you can find a date nail.
Call these digits “fg”.
Waypoint 3: Ice Cream Parlor
This photo was of the Holmes Ice Cream Parlor that was damaged during the event. South of here, you will see a block of stores with phone numbers on their signs.
Take the 6th digit of the phone number for the hair care place and call this “j”.
Take the 8th digit of the phone number for the food establishment and call this “k”.
Waypoint 4: Great Brook Valley Apartments
This photo is of a bus that got blown over as a result of the event. Warning – this is not a good neighborhood. I apologize to bring you through here, but the picture was so good I needed to include it in this hunt. You can get the necessary information on a drive by without getting out of your car. You may note that they just recently added a handicap ramp, making it quite difficult to be sure this was the correct building. You need to find the number of the apartment building (since redone) that the bus landed in front of.
Take the second digit, subtract 2 and call this “l”.
Waypoint 5: Aronson Monument
This photo is an aerial view of the destruction that occurred just west of the downtown. The coordinates will bring you to the front of a school where you will find a plaque that commemorates the three people killed here from the event.
Take the 5th letter of the name of the school and call that “m”.
Take the 1st letter of the 1st name on the plaque and call that “n”.
Take the 4th letter of the 2nd name on the plaque and call that “o”.
Take the 11th letter on the plaque (spaces don’t count) and call that “p”.
Take the 6th letter of the 3rd name on the plaque and call that “q”.
As stated above, you need to fill in the clues in the table and try to determine where you are supposed to go and what you are supposed to do there. This final destination is appropriate to this scavenger hunt. It is only available during normal business hours.
At the final, use the blue card to verify your find and the tan card as a momento. Please do not state anything in your online log that will give away the location of the final.
I may not be able to perform maintenance on the final container regularly. Feel free to clean out any obvious junk you find there and throw away. No travel bugs please.
