T … Exploring Hot Springs Traditional Cache

    

Hot Springs is traditionally best known for the natural spring water that gives it its name, flowing out of the ground at a temperature of 147º Fahrenheit (64º C). This series has been developed to tell about many of the historical facets surrounding Hot Springs, Arkansas. Some of the events and happenings of this city are well known and others are more obscure.
    Several of the letter connections will be quite obvious upon arrival of the cache, while others you might derive from reading about the history of a particular location or event. For the most part, the caches are PnG and should be easy to locate. I hope you enjoy this series as much as I have putting it together. I have learned quite a bit about the town that I call home.

T is for Tap dancing.

    
Bill “Bojangles” Robinson celebrated his 66th birthday in Hot Springs on May twenty-fifth, 1944, by tap-dancing from upper Park Avenueto the Pythian Hotel on Malvern Avenue, a distance of almost two miles. Over 1 thousandpeople turned theireyes on Robinson as he tap danced thru the tulips and tapping his way through the thoroughfares of downtown Hot Springs.

   
  The Pythian Hotel opened on December twenty-seventh, 1914 and provided bathing services half price for the members of the Knights of Pythias insurance organization. In 1935, a hospital was relocated to the fourth floor of the Pythian. ThePythian operated successfully until desegregation in 1965. The hotel eventually closed in 1974.
