A forestal fire-watch station with panoramic views at 1150 m altitude in the Sierra de Tejeda.
Casita de Vigilancia is a fire-watch station almost directly above the Casa de La Mina. It affords fantastic 360 degree views over the mountains and the coastline. Best time to visit is either early in the morning (view towards Malaga) or in the late afternoon when breathtaking views towards Frigillana and Nerja can be enjoyed.
The station is manned all summer. In order to not interfere with their operation, the cache has been placed in a rocky area slightly below the summit.
To reach the cache, take the road from Competa to Torrox. Just above Competa, at the pass, turn left towards Casa La Mina (signposted). Follow the track to Puerto El Collado (N36 49.908, W 003 57.210) and park your car. From here, turn left (uphill) and take a 3.4 km walk along a forestry track through pine forest with beautiful views.
Alternatively,vehicle with medium - high clearance needed, drive upon the aforementioned track to a junction just below the station (N 36 49.893, W 003 57.191), park your car there and walk the remaining 300 m.
