GeoVenture 2009 will be held in beautiful Birds Hill Park hosted
by the Manitoba Geocaching Association. The event
weekend runs from Friday, August 28 until Sunday, August 30
and takes place in Group Use Area #1, Site #5. This year, we
will have a kick-off Pancake Breakfast on Saturday morning as well
as a potluck BBQ on Saturday evening. The MBGA will provide the
supplies for the breakfast as well as the hamburgers and hotdogs
for the BBQ.
The Group Use area includes a picnic shelter with running water,
electricity and wood fired grills for our exclusive use. There are
modern, heated washrooms nearby. Showers are available in the main
campground area. The MBGA will collect $15 per night in camping
fees from campers. If you plan on camping, please post here so
we'll have an idea of how many campers to plan for.
The group use site only accommodates tents, but campers are
welcome to set up in the parking area. There are no facilities for
hookup in the parking area. However, there are electrical and full
service sites nearby at the very nice Birds Hill Park Provincial
Campground that can be reserved by calling 1-888-482-2267.
Once you arrive, please check in at the GeoVenture 2009
registration (the coordinates above) at the group camping site
shelter Friday evening or Saturday morning.
Be sure to add this event to your watchlist as more
details will be added as the event gets closer. Also, to help us
plan, post a note if you plan on attending along with the number in
your party and whether you'll be camping. If you're planning on
coming to the potluck BBQ, please list what food item you'll be
bringing.
Update:
This event is open to everyone, whether you've
been caching for a long time, are relatively new at it, or even
just thinking about trying it some time. The main event happens on
Saturday, but feel free to drop by any time. You can come for the
day, or stay for the weekend. Looks like we have several newbies
coming out, so we look forward to meeting you.
Cache Challenge - The Ancient
Trail by
mtolympus
Another great cache challenge will take place this year for
those that are interested. This year's cache challenge will be
family friendly, but you can expect to spend two or three hours to
complete all the stages.
Update:
- Long pants are highly recommended (lots of
poison ivy and thorny bushes).
- Bring bug spray
- You will be walking through some water, so
wear shoes that can handle it. It's the nature of the terrain in
this area of BHP.
- Enjoy the challenge. It should be a lot of
fun. And most of all: be prepared to experience the backwoods of
BHP.
