Geocache Description:

Heritage Trees Series #2

This cache is for the CARL-1 event and should not be sought out until after 6:00 PM on June 19th. Any logs before that date will be deleted.

These plains cottonwoods are recognized by the Heritage Tree Foundation of Canada. They were planted during the period 1930 – 1946 by Lou and Frieda Dekker to provide shelter on their farm from the sun and wind.

This cache has been discussed with the owners of the property and has their permission to be placed on the grounds. This is an operational farm. There is room for parking on both sides of the road near the cache coordinates but do not remain there for an extended period of time as the area is also used by farm machinery. You may take pictures and enjoy the peaceful setting but please stay near the cache and do not wander around the grounds. This is also a popular area for special gatherings such as weddings. Please be as unobtrusive as possible if you encounter such an event.

The cache is a small LnL with a logbook, pencil, sharpener, stickers, novelty eraser, rubber ball and a metal puzzle. There is a Canadian fridge magnet for the FTF.

Additional information on heritage trees may be found in “Heritage Trees of Alberta” (2008) published by The Heritage Tree Foundation of Canada or on the website www.heritagetreefoundation.com
