The cache is accessible from Long distance path E4 or after a short 1km hike from Smigies Picnic Site.
You can get to Smigies Picnic site easily in a normal 2 wheel drive car from Neo Chorio, to go beyond the Picnic Site needs a 4x4 ideally.
We came across this place a few years ago when we unwisely took a 2 wheel drive hire car all along the west coast road (not for the faint-hearted!). It felt appropriate that a cache be placed here as it is relatively accessible from either the E4 path or a short walk from the Picnic Site though the last few yards are a climb so may need assistance but I managed it on my own and I'm not particularly adept.
The name of the cache comes from the guardian "Trike" who is attached to a TB and now travelling. Trike is a plastic dinosaur donated my 4 year old boy when he was 2 to guard the cache. Whilst he likes to travel, please leave a temporary guardian in his place until he can return.
The container is now a regular size rectangular clip lock watertight tub within a camouflage pouch. It contains a notebook, two pencils and a sharpener (please leave in).
From the cache you can rejoin the marked trails the 'Short Walk' and the 'Long Walk' which will take you back to Smigies on a circular route and is a good walk. Note if you set off from Smigies on the Short or Long walks you will need to backtrack down the road to the cache.
Smigies Picnic site has numerous picnic tables and a childrens play area as well as BBQ area and everytime we have been we have had the place virtually to ourselves.
As always in the Akamas, beware of snakes. There are 8 species in Cyprus and the Blunt Nosed Viper is potentially deadly. We have only ever seen the black whip snake which is non-venomous and the occasional dead snake but beware of rummaging around under rocks.
