For those of us who are old enough we can remember Casey Kasem we
can remember his voice doing many things like Shaggy on Scobby-Doo,
or various voices on Sesame Street. But the one thing most of us
will remember him for was his body of work on the radio, doing
Americas Top 40 from 1970 to 2004 (the show has had a few different
names during that span but the concept never changed).
For those of you who don’t remember this program it was a simple
concept, every week they played the 40 top pop records in America
from number 40 to number 1.
This puzzle is inspired by that program:
This week’s chart of the top 40 pop songs has just been
published. The song that was at number 35 in last week’s chart has
dropped out, and there is a new song at number 32. There are 5
non-movers, at positions 1, 23, 29, 31, and 37. Of the other 34
songs in the new chart 18 have moved up and 16 down, but in every
instance the number of positions moved, whether up or down, was a
factor (greater than one, but possibly equal to the number itself)
of the song’s position in the last week’s chart.
