Fear not: the cache trail isn’t five miles long! It’s just so named to celebrate the Fact that Sly2 has Finally Found every cache within Five miles of home . . . until some more are published, that is!
On that basis the cache is on the theme of things beginning with F, so original contents include: First to Find prize - Frog; Fast car sticker; Fridge magnet; Feline family; Family geocoin (Noumoe's Suncatcher Family Geocoin); Log book and pen This is a multi-cache taking cachers to the town of Nailsworth and then out into the Nailsworth valley. Not too hard and hopefully not too far for small geocachers. The above co-ordinates are for the starting point, at the first waypoint: it was to have been the Fountain, which had stood at this spot for over 140 years – but it’s been moved so a slight change of focus. Take a look at the Fountain before you leave, however: it's now next to William's Kitchen, and looks really lovely when floodlit at night! The co-ordinates are for the first waypoint: there’s plenty of parking around here although you might enjoy a game of Find-the-Parking-Spot if you venture in on a Saturday morning. The waypoints take you around town, up and down some steep hills, and the final cache is over fields which are steep and can be muddy in places, so not for pushchairs. There are often horses or cows in the fields too, so please keep dogs under control. NB: after you’ve found the cache you can continue up the footpath to the road then bear left for a circular walk back to town, or bear right for Shortwood and more of Sly2’s caches. At the first waypoint (N 51° 41.723 W 002° 13.141), when did Jeremiah’s son die bankrupt – the fourth digit of the year is A. Head to waypoint two (N 51° 41.678 W 002° 13.170), in memory of George Mills. When did 500 evacuees from Eastbourne met at the Town Hall – the third digit of the year is B. Not far to waypoint three (N 51° 41.678 W 002° 13.181). How many years of friendship are celebrated here? The first digit is C. Waypoint four (N 51° 41.653 W 002°13.272). Facing the Friends’ Meeting House, in which year did SW build the house to the left? The fourth digit of the year is D. Waypoint five (N 51° 41.676 W 002° 13.400). How many Os in the capital name of this building? That number = E. Waypoint six (N51° 41.664 W 002° 13.422). What’s the penalty for riding a bicycle, tricycle or other similar machine down here? Fine minus E = F. Waypoint seven (N 51° 41.636 W 002° 13.380). In what year was the Baptist Chapel built – you may have to step back to see the number. Third digit of year minus final digit of year = G. The final cache can be found at N AC° BC.DCB W 0E° CF.GEB – beware the barbed wire!
