Geocache Description:

The cache is in a regular OD ammo can with a large cache sticker on the side. It includes the normal swag. You can park within a few feet of the cache. It’s available from dawn till dusk or whenever the gates are open! There's very little chance of getting spotted by muggles unless it's around Memorial Day! I didn't notice any poison ivy while I was there, but it wouldn't hurt to keep your eyes open!

Three miles north of here is the town of Elmo, also known as Banner City. The two towns were platted one mile apart, Elmo in December 1885 and when the railroad failed to go through, they formed Banner City, to the east, in March 1886.
In 1886 the St. Columba Catholic Church was erected in Banner City. In the early years of the church, the German immigrants sat on one side and the Irish on the other. The Mt Calvary Catholic Cemetery served the Catholics of the communities.
Of renowned importance to the cemetery was the fossil bed to the east. More than 2000 species of insect fossils were found in the limestone beds in 1899-1902. In 1928 a K-State entomologist found a 7½” dragonfly wing, the largest ever found!
