Geocache Description:

[ENG] Prism is a transparent optical element with flat, polished surfaces that refract light. The exact angles between the surfaces depend on the application.

[EST] Isaac Newton suunas 1666. aastal valguskiire läbi klaasist prisma ja lasi sellel langeda valgele pinnale. Prisma lõhkus valge valguse vikerkaarevärvideks. Leonardo daVinci oli sama katse teinud juba 200 aastat varem, kuid kartuses et võimud peavad tema avastust pühaduseteotuseks, teinud sellest vaid märkmeid. Õnneks oli Newton võimeline mitte ainult avalikustama oma leidu, vaid ka arutlema selle tekkemehhanismide üle. Ta järeldas, et valge valgus on lihtsalt paljude värvide kombinatsioon ja et prisma murdis igat värvi erinevalt, tehes nad niimoodi nähtavaks.
