Geocache Description:

An easy cache located in another prarie town that is quickly disappearing.

Many prairie towns were established by the railroad. Located approx 10-15 miles apart, they often coincided with the amount of track the crews could lay in a short period of time. When transportation was first by horse and walking and then by the slower, gas hungry vehicles, this distance proved very convenient for the farmers in the area. Towns thrived, each having the necessities of a post office, grain elevator or two, school, hotel, community hall, doctor office, gas station/garage, stores, other businesses, government offices and of course a church. As time progressed, farms became larger, families moved away to the larger centers, businesses closed, children were bussed to centralized schools and to drive a greater distance to get groceries, mail etc was just something that you did. One or two communities in the area may continue to grow and thrive but others were not as lucky. One of the last pillars of the community to disappear though is the local church. Services may not be held as often or be lead by a member of the community instead of an ordained minister but it would still remain a focal point for the dying community. This cache is placed near where the last remaining church was in Truax, a community that is suffering the same fate as many prairie towns. The church was St. Anne's Catholic Church, built in 1917 under the guidance of Father Ueberberg. In 1960 an addition was added to the church on the east end and an old school house (Sudom School) was moved to the lot to be used as the Parish Hall.
