Soccer is the fastest growing and most played sport in Canada today. Here in Manitoba and especially Winnipeg, we have a diverse, strong soccer culture. Kids ages 4 - 8 have the opportunity to learn and fall in love with the game of soccer through Mini or Micro Soccer. This is a less competitive introduction to soccer and is made possible by the many volunteer coaches like myself who donate their time to help kids play the game.
As part of the mini soccer experience, a very large tournament called the Mini Soccer Jamboree is held each year. As many as 100+ teams take part in this tournament each year. This translates to more than 1000 players; when you take into account parents and family members, there may be in excess of 5000+ people walking around the grounds on any given day of this weekend long tournament. The 2009 Mini Soccer Jamboree was hosted by the West St. Paul Community Center.

For all you budding soccer super stars in training, I recommend you check out these training video’s from the pro’s; coach’s may want to check out the training drills video’s as well!
If you have some spare time, enjoy working with kids and want to give back to your community, ask your local community center about volunteer coaching. You don’t need to be pro, heck you don’t even have to know how to play the game. Most community centers will teach you so you can teach the kids. Reward is unparalleled and to the kids you coach, you will be a pro!
