"El decano de los cantores" en Puerto Rico como fue conocido Jesús Sánchez Erazo ("Chuíto") fué el primero en cantar música jíbara (folclórica) en la radio. Nació en Bayamón en 1900 y murió en 1979. Chuíto era uno de los más queridos "cantores" jíbaros de Puerto Rico. Cuando jóven, comenzó su carrera con el Conjunto Típico Ladí, el maestro cuatrista Archilla, el guitarrista Don Felo y el güirero Toribio cuando se conocían como el grupo Industrias Nativas. Continuó su carrera en los años 50’s con su grupo Los Madrugadores, actualmente el Trio Cialeño con el cuatrista Pancho Ortiz Piñeiro y luego con el grupo del cuatrista Nieves Quintero en el sello Ansonia. Sus décimas, aguinaldos y controversias eran usualmente jocosos o patrióticos, pero rara vez tristes. Le sobrevive un de sus hijos, Juan Bautista, que es cantante de Baladas.
Justo en la calle que pasa al lado del monumento está el Paseo de Los Artistas, dedicado a los artistas de Puerto Rico. Donde veas muchas estrellas, ahí es. :-)

Born in Bayamón in 1900 and died in 1979. Chuíto was one of the most beloved Jibaro singers of Puerto Rico. When young, he began his career with the Typical music group Ladí, cuatro master Archilla, guitarist Don Felo, and "güirero" Toribio when the group was known as "Native Industries". He continued his career in the 50s with his group's "The Early risers", now known as "Trio Cialeño" with cuatro master Pancho Ortiz Piñeiro and then with the group of cuatro master Nieves Quintero on the Ansonia label. Their décimas, aguinaldos and controversies were often humorous or patriotic, but seldom sad. He is survived by one of his sons, Juan Bautista, who is a singer of ballads.
Just on the street that passes beside the monument, you will find Paseo de Los Artistas ("Artists Drive"), dedicated to Puertorican artists. Where you see a lot of stars, there it is. :-)
