Geocache Description:


Windmill Hill is set in the heart of the Charnwood Forest close to the village of Woodhouse Eaves (having a number of pubs and small shops). A trip to Windmill Hill can be combined with visits to Beacon Hill and its Bronze Age fort, or a walk along the Broombriggs Farm trail. Even though only the stone base of the windmill is left (the superstructure burnt down in 1945), the short climb to the top of this 164m (538ft), hill is worth the effort; this area is generally less busy than the adjacent Beacon Hill. You can also combine this cache with a hunt for GC3BBC.

There are two main trails through the woodland to the top of the hill. Starting from the Broombriggs Farm and Windmill Hill carpark, walk down the bridleway, into the adjacent field, and then take the first stile across the fence on the left. This path crosses several stiles and traverses through open land with young native trees before turning right (SW) across a stile into the woods and up onto the hill (800m or 0.5 mile from the carpark to the top of the hill). Alternatively, continue down the bridleway, through the next gate and pickup the footpath on the left.
