Geocache Description:

This is a rock hard cache ( might not be gold but is still a cache ) found under the power lines overlooking the Goldpanner Campgrounds which is a great place for weekend or longer camping stays. There are trails to hike on and old farm machinery to see. It has a great little restaurant to eat at and a play area for the kids. All this is nestled in the Monashee Creek and Heckman Creek valleys.

Cache is a small match container with log book only. There is no writing stick in the cache, but there is room for one. If someone has a small pencil with them and would like to leave it feel free. Coordinates were not easy to get because of the power lines. Standing at the cache you can look down on the old tractors and look up the valley that has Monashee creek at is bottom. Please don't stop on the highway, go park at the day park area or the restaurant. N50 11.516 W118 33.186. After this cache or before go check out the other cache in the area.

A bit of history: The campgrounds is on the present site of what was known for over 100 years as the Upper Cherry Creek Placer Camp. From 1863 to 1885 the site probably yielded an ounce of gold per day for each of the 200 men who worked the pay dirt section of Heckman, Cherry and Monashee Creeks. Today, much of the gold is gone but new pay dirt exists with hundreds again searching for it.
