Scout's Shavano Stash provides an incentive to keep going on the
route to the summit of Mt. Shavano. It also provides a great view
of the Angel Snow field that you are about to cross so you can
consider what route you'd like to take. I placed this cache in
early June of 2009. The angel and the summit had a lot of snow (I
was unable to reach the cache on the summit due the deep snow) the
area where I placed the cache was totally snow free so this should
be good location for most of the year.
As is my standard, the cache is hidden in plain sight but you
have look at just the right angle to see the camouflaged
container.
We placed this cache on our way down the mountain and for some
odd reason we were only able to get 37 foot accuracy on both our
PN-40 and 60csx. (On the way up we had 9 foot accuracy!) I don't
want this to be a needle-in-a-haystack type of find so I am
providing some more information on how to find the cache. Feel free
to print the picture of the location of the cache below to make
sure you don't have to search too large an area. (Updated
coordinates would be welcome but be sure to tell me your GPS type
and its estimated accuracy) Look carefully at the dark gap (bottom
center of photo) in the rocks below. That's the location of the
cache. You can see it by by looking into the gap but the cache is
camouflaged so it's not that obvious.
