Another in Mole's Series of Series
I have put together a series of caches and the theme of these are ‘Series’ – each cache is, in their own right, part of a group of caches around the country following a theme linked to a landmark or object, such as churches, ponds and in this case Drinking Fountains and Troughs.
Each ‘series’ was devised by an individual cacher who either retained the series and developed it on their own such as the ponds, dewponds and lakes series by martletsman or encouraged other cachers to add to the series with the request to advise the originator of a new addition in order to keep tabs of the increasing number and save duplication – such as the church micro series, which is managed by sadexploration. There are some series of caches which do not get referred to by a rolling number allocated by the originator (like church micro #176), instead these others are referred to by their location – such as the motorway mayhem series where the motorway and the junction distinguish it from any other. My little series will draw on many of these – each being part of the series referred to but part of this series – Mole’s SOS (Series Of Series)
This series was instigated by Merstham Mafia and the majority of this smaller series are located in the northern part of Surrey. This series started with GC18MZR which will give an explanation as to the history behind the objects in question.
This trough was originally situated on the site of the ancient market at Market Place, in Tonbridge High Street and was a gift of Mrs George Wise in 1902.
Due to increase in traffic the trough was re-located to its present site in 1913 and has remained there since. Very close to this trough is what appears to be a drinking fountain (I might be corrected in time) The date on this is 1857 – so it appears we have examples of both in the one place.
Parking often available nearby in Waterloo Road
If any body would like to expand to this series (Drinking Fountains and troughs) please do, I would just ask that you could let Merstham Mafia know first so they can keep track of the numbers and names to avoid duplication.
Please ensure the cache is put back exactly as found - this is now a small phial - it is in a place which should make it not visible from the road (also sheltered a bit from the rain ) - though right next to the road and in a high muggle area. Please ensure it is replaced in exactly the same location
