Geocache Description:

"Mir sin am Joer 50 vru Christus. Ganz Gallien as vun de Réimer besat... Ganz? Neen! Ee gallescht Duerf wiert sech nach ëmmer verbruet géint d'Réimer, an do kommen si nët eran. An d'Garnisounsliewen as nët liicht fir d'Légionären an de verschanzte Lagere vu Treverorum, Orolaunum, Andethanna a Ricciacus..."

"The year is 50BC. Gaul is entirely occupied by the Romans. Well, not entirely... One small village of indomitable Gauls still holds out against the invaders. And life is not easy for the Roman legionaries who garrison the fortified camps of Treverorum, Orolaunum, Andethanna and Ricciacus..."

While Obelix was hunting wild boars a group of Roman legionaries walked through his home territory. Obelix feels very sad and needs to find Idefix to cheer him up. Unfortunately Idefix has completely disappeared.

Please, help Obelix to find the way to Idefix. The walk is about 1 km long and goes mostly along the paths.

WP1 - Stone obelisk

N 49° 33.660

E 006° 15.200

Obelix's hunt had been successfull and now with full stomach he is on a good mood, as usual, and walks slowly forward to pick up one of his favourite menhirs. However, Obelix's good mood doesn't last long. The Roman legionaries have damaged the menhir which Obelix left beside the road. Obelix gets very unhappy because the nice menhir is now full of Roman graffities. Feeling desperate he writes down some information of the big disaster:

A = _ _ _
The year when the original Roman milestone was erected

B = _ _ km
Kilometers written on the memorial stone beside the obelisk

C = _ _ milles
Roman miles written on the memorial stone

But where is Idefix?

HISTORY: The Roman milestone was found in Buchholz near the national road between Dalheim and Medingen during the road construction works on the 16th of November 1934. This milestone was erected almost 1900 years ago beside the ancient Roman road leading from Trier (Colonia Augusta Treverorum) to Dalheim (Ricciacus) and further to Metz (Divodurum Mediomatricum). Today the original milestone is conserved at the Musée de l'Etat, Luxembourg but the replica can be seen at the reference coordinates.

The inscription is in Latin and reads:
(Imperator Caesari divi)
T(raiani Parthici filio)
D(ivi Nervae nepoti)
Traian(o Hadriano)
Aug(usto) Po(ntifici maximo)
Trib(unica) potest(ate V)
(consuli III patri patriae)
A Colonia Aug(usta)
(Treverorum milia passum) XXV

WP2 - Wooden obelisk

N 49° 33.[B x C - 99]

E 006° 15.[(A - 99) x (B - C)]

On the way along the Roman road Obelix notices an object which could have interested Idefix as well as other dogs. Unfortunately also the Roman legionaries seem to have been here because there is a roman number written on the obelisk.

D = The roman number

But where is Idefix?

WP 3 - Roman temple

N 49° 33.[8 x A - 12 x D]

E 006° 15.[2 x (A + D) + C]

Obelix continues his journey and soon arrives to the entrance of Roman temple. He enters the temple and notices that he is on the right track and not too far away from Idefix.

Close to the temple there is a yellow sign board containing few letters, some numbers and an arrow.

E = The sum of the first two digits on the number above the arrow.

And there is Idefix, [B + C + D - E] meters from the temple to the direction [A - B - C - E]°.

HISTORY: The remains of a Roman temple were found on the 19th of November 1934 when one of the road constructors found a piece of a limestone statue. The archaeologists started immediately to explore the place and some days later the stone foundations of a small temple were excavated. According to the archaeological finds the temple originates from the 2nd century A.D. At the temple ruins you can still see stone squares which once upon a time were foundations of the temple walls and a room of the Gods.
