The hills around Upper Coquetdale are packed with history of our forebears. You don’t have to look hard to find old whisky stills, drovers routes, roman forts or prehistoric art. In fact you don't have to look further than the locations of nearby caches.
Old Rookland is an abandoned farm up in the hills beyond Alwinton. Its a stunning location. Much of the farmhouse is a ruin but there’s plenty of evidence of occupation within the last 100 year or so (silage store, barn, a well and even an old rhubarb patch).
Access the farmhouse via marked footpaths from Alwinton or Biddlestone. It is an isolated site and you're unlikely to meet anyone else in your search for the cache. There is very limited mobile signal in this area of Coquetdale. Please be careful during the winter when the weather can turn quickly.
The cache is circular screw top Tupperware container. It contains a log, pencils and numerous swops. Please take care when replacing the cache in its location.
