This Pony Express Station has sources indicating it was located within the town of Troy. A monument in the northwest corner of the courthouse lawn notes the existence of the relay station. Some authors list the monument's location as the possible site of the station, but later research links the station with the Smith Hotel. Leonard Smith arrived in Troy in 1858 and purshased the Troy Hotel. Two years later, at the request of the Central Overland California & Pikes Peak Express Company, he constructed a barn large enough for five horses. The renamed Smith Hotel served as a relay station and was located at the present northeast corner of First and Myrtle Streets.
Cache is a micro with room for log, pen, and a few small coins or swag. A $ gold coin is also in the cache for a FTF Prize.
**NOTE**
This cache listing is a qualifyer for the "Pony Express Trail Challenge" of mine. Photo of you and the Pony Express horse/rider or a photo of you and the Pony Express marker by the courthouse will work for this Kansas station.
