How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

The Mount Tahoma Geocaching Disorganization invites you to Eatonville for a barbecue!

Summer passes so quickly in the Pacific Northwest! Before the kids head back to school and the rain drifts in again off the great ocean, the Mount Tahoma Geocaching Disorganization will gather to celebrate the sun, friendships old and new, and of course geocaching!

Not sure if you're a member? Of course you are--we're far too disorganized to keep membership lists. If you love geocaching in the shadow of The Mountain, consider yourself invited!

Events include:

  • BBQ: The hosts will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, and a variety of sodas. We're happy to contribute veggie burgers as well, so let us know when you sign up if you prefer this option.
  • Potluck: Please plan to bring salads, side dishes, or desserts to share.
  • K2D2's Micro-Fizzy Challenge: Bring your GPS units, travel bugs, coins, swag and signature items! Our yard will be seeded with a variety of creative geocaches exclusive to this event and appropriate for trading items, with a prize raffle for those who successfully complete all of the stages. See the waypoints below for a preview of what to expect! (All terrain and difficulty levels are tongue-in-cheek and appropriate for all ages.) By the way, this'll be a great introduction to geoaching if you have muggle friends who would like to come along.
  • Kids are welcome! Our yard has a playset and room to run. Our own sons, Geocache Bandit and Stupendous-man, are 11 and 8, respectively.
  • Social opportunities: This is, first and foremost, a meet-and-greet. Between burgers and caches, plan to just hang out, relax, make new friends, and share your stories from the trail!

The view from our coordinates

The Fine Print:

  • Time: 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Grilling will begin at 5.
  • Location: See the coordinates at the top of the page. You're looking for a gray house at the back of the cul de sac.
  • Parking: Parking is available in our driveway and around the edges of the cul de sac.
  • RSVP: Please indicate your intention to attend, and how many you'll be bringing, so that we're sure to have enough burgers, hot dogs, and sodas. Let us know if you prefer veggie burgers.
  • What to bring: Salads, side dishes, or deserts; GPSr, TBs, coins, swag, and signature items; and your kids!
  • Local caches: Plan to come to town early and make a day of it. Eatonville is jam-packed with caches! You can find three within our neighborhood and 45 within just 3 miles, including easy cache-and-dashes, challenging puzzles, classic multis, educational earthcaches, beautiful forest hikes, even kayaking adventures.
  • Updates: Watch this page for updates as the date gets closer.

See you all there here!
