Geocache Description:

Preston Fountain

The short story about the evolution of a Bluejay into a Falcon with help from a Cardinal

Once upon a time....

just up the hill from where you will find the cache...

There once was a school. It served two towns: Preston and Fountain. They were known as the Preston-Fountain Bluejays and they battled against other area schools for bragging rights in various contests of skill, athleticism and brainpower. Some of those schools included the Wykoff Wykats, and the big rival to the south: The Harmony Cardinals.

As the years went by, it became necessary for Preston-Fountain to think hard about its future. Could it continue as it was? Other schools were in the same predicament. Eventually, Preston-Fountain and long-time rival, Harmony, decided to come together to form a new school - Fillmore Central, which became official in 1993. Since "Bluejays" or "Cardinals" could no longer be used, "Falcons" was decided upon as a good bird-related name!

So, while "Preston-Fountain" no longer exists as a district (though the name is still engraved on the Fillmore Central Elementary School that's just up the hill from the cache, see the photo of that at the beginning of this cache description!) you can still enjoy this new Preston Fountain while hunting for this geocache!

This cache is hidden in plain sight. There is no need to go near, or be in the water in any way or to have to walk upon the Preston Service Plus operations area. You should be able to park on the street next to (or near) GZ. Or park across Hwy 52 at the B&B Bowl/Restaurant (rebuilt since the New Year's Day fire on Jan 1, 2016) and walk over. Hwy 52 is generally not very busy, but be careful crossing the Hwy if you decide to approach GZ that way.

Bring your own pen or pencil. There is a log, but space not available for a pencil!

This location can get busy at times. Be mindful (yet respectful!) of the muggles. We were all muggles at one time ourselves! The fountain itself is seasonal, usually operational in mid-April until October/November. Also near here much of the spring/summer/fall is the Preston Trout. A big Trout statue on a trailer (it gets showed off in area parades) and the Preston Boosters "Always go forward" car with two front ends and steering wheels. Perfect for a photo-op when they are available!

Also - new in Preston in 2018 - the "9 Hole Fishing Course" marked on the Root River as it makes its way through Preston. For more information on that, visit The National Trout Center: http://nationaltroutcenter.org/. The map of the "9 Hole Fishing Course" map is available here: https://nationaltroutcenter.org/9-hole-fishing-course/.

Hope you enjoy this geocache!
