Just off the highway, on a primitive back road that is passable for 2wd. You can park near the main turn-off, and enjoy a hike to nearby caches, or you can practically drive to this one.
This road is a beautiful back route to Pinehurst. In spring, it showcases blooming dogwood and wildflowers, and in the fall is ignited with color. It's hard to imagine what possesed those who found these noble giants in the early days and thought the appropriate course of action would be to drop them. And the only suitable purpose to be found for the soft splintery wood was as roof shingles. It's heartening to see so many beautiful strong young Sequoia's thriving here, and to know that in a thousand years or so they will be as big as the fallen giants trees that left these bones. Earth abides.
