Wenniget - "Let's Beat Breast Cancer" Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wenniget: After much thought, I have decided to archive this cache. It has been a few years since I have walked for breast cancer, so I'm going to put this cache to sleep. Hopefully I will put a new cache in its place soon. Thanks for all the cachers that stopped to visit. Happy caching!!

Geocache Description:

Breast cancer impacts one in nine women in their lifetime and that number is just too high. During the summer of 2009 – in six Canadian cities - thousands of men and women will be uniting in a life-changing world-changing event – the Weekend to End Breast Cancer. The Edmonton one this year is Aug 8 & 9 and will benefit the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Prior years, this has been a two-day 60 km walk that I have completed three times – 2006, 2007 and 2008. The first two years, I shaved my head completely bald for the summer and in 2008, permanently dyed my hair hot pink. Anyone interested in finding out more about this walk can simply go to www.endcancer.ca and click on the city of your choice.

This year, we have been given the option of walking the full 60 km or downsizing to a one-day 30 km walk. Due to other personal commitments and not-to-be-taken-lightly our assorted aging body parts, my friend and I have decided to exercise that option. Still, extensive training must take place to get our bodies in shape for this walk – mostly our feet – many kms must be walked ahead of time to toughen up the bottom of our feet so that painful blisters don’t form on the big day.

As this spot is usually where my training walks start, I chose it as the site for my special cache to commemorate this wonderful cause. I am starting out with all tradeables being either breast cancer items or at least pink items. It is also the starting/finish line for my special travel bug – “Giving” – a little breast cancer bear who wants to walk around the world.

The first part of this cache is a nano. The second part is a micro and the third/final is small. All are within walking distance of each other. (ACTUALLY, IT SHOULD ONLY TAKE YOU ABOUT TEN MINUTES!!!) When you approach the area, there are two driveways very close to each other on the west side of the highway – take the most southern one. Feel free to park there while you complete the last two legs of the cache as long as you don’t block it completely. In case you haven’t figured it out, this is actually my own driveway, so if we happen across you – we’ll stop for a visit (no need to be too stealthy – you will not be in view of our house). If you need to come into the yard to turn around, feel free to stop for a visit or at least give us a toot and a wave on your way. We have two large dogs that like people but not so much other dogs, so…….

Make sure to bring your geocaching decryption code as a very small part of the note in the nano needs deciphering in order to get to the second one. After you find the final cache, please replace it as you found it – you’ll figure it out!

FTF prize is a Signal the Frog antenna topper. Also starting out in this cache is the “Midnight FTF Attempt” geocoin that I picked up at another cache lately – its description is “Old caches are a thing of the past, I hide in new ones only”, so…..it’s in my new one – please take and move it along.
