Geocache Description:

Founded in 1850, Tyrone originally was called “Eagleville,” then “Shorbsville,” and then “Tyrone City.”

Because of its geographical location at the juncture of the Little Juniata River and the Bald Eagle Creek, and between the Allegheny and Brush Mountains, Tyrone became a railroad town rather than an iron industrial town. However, two other industries have been — and will continue to be — important to the growth and development of Tyrone. They are the paper mill and agriculture.

In 1975, the U.S. Rt. 220 Bypass (now Interstate 99) replaced many of the homes in East Tyrone as well as the Wilson Chemical Buildings. Pennsylvania Ave. ran from the railroad station in the south to Westvaco lines in the north. The wye tracks connected the Bald Eagle Valley Railroad with the main line of the Pennsylvania Railroad. With the decrease in train business, the depot was demolished in 1968.

The Athletic Park (now the site of the Industrial Park) was a focal point for recreation from 1910 to 1945. Reservoir Park continues as a free, popular public resort with picnic tables, swings, and rides for children along with a band shell for concerts. Its lake once provided ice for home refrigeration, but now the young people use it for fishing in trout season.

There is a monument at each of the stages. The posted coordinates will take you to the first monument.
At the first 2 stages there will be something hidden that will give you coordinates to the next stage. At each stage you will learn a little history about Tyrone and figure out the coordinates to the final stage. You will only need to figure out the last 3 digits for the N and W Coordinates of the final stage.

Watch out for muggles around the different stages.

FTF prize goes to Durango633. Congratulations Durango633.

FINAL STAGE: N 40° 40.--- W 078° 13.---

Here's the clues to the final stage coordinates:

For N Coordinates:

Stage 1A: The number of letters in the 15th word on the plaque.
1st number in the N coordinates

Stage 1B: Take the date the monument was erected minus the date Captain Logan Died then reverse the sum.
2nd and 3rd numbers in N Coordinates

For W Coordinates:

Stage 2: Number of letters in the 4th word second Paragraph.
1st number in W coordinates

Stage 3: On the soldier's plaque use either date. Take the 2 middle numbers and add the first number.
2nd and 3rd number for W coordinates.
