Built in 1921, the old "Vnited States Post Office" has long been a well-known landmark to anyone coming into downtown from the West. It has not been in use since 1997, though parts of "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" were filmed here.
With maintenance running the USPS an estimated $2 million per year and plans to repurpose the facility repeatedly falling through, it was recently put up for auction for only $300,000. Not bad for over 60 acres of floor space!
** UPDATE **
The post office was sold for $40,000,000 on August 27, 2009. However, the new owners have not announced what their plans are.
