A 10 minute walk on a wide gravel path in Heritage Park. The cache
is a small L & L container with a logbook, pencil and swag
items. FTF has first pick without having to trade. The terrain at
the cache location is fairly steep and can be slippery in places.
Heritage Park is a large but relatively unknown park in
Abbotsford's Mt. Lehman area. When looking for other caches in the
neighbourhood we found out that there wasn't a single cache listed
in this park so a new cache location was born! The trailhead is at
the end of Landing where you can park your car. From there it's
about a 10 minute walk downhill on a wide gravel path. Although
this cache is far enough away from the Canadian National Railway,
please note that CNR has a strict Zero Tolerance policy on
trespassing on railway property.
Historic information: At the end of Landing Road used to be Mt.
Lehman Landing. Pilings still remain to mark where the wharf once
stood. In 1883, Thompsons Store & Mt. Lehman Post Office
operated at this landing. The landing used to be the only entry
point for the Matsqui area and was served by steam boats. Landing
Road was open for vehicular traffic until 1950, now only a foot
path remains. From 1910-1952 the BC Electric Railway provided
passenger trains and freight service twice daily and an extra
market train came through on Fridays. They also had a Milk train
every morning to carry dairy products. The railway links Chilliwack
to Vancouver through Mt. Lehman.
Congrats
to the CURNEWS on your FTF! You did it again!!
