Mill dam was constructed in the 1860’s to provide a source of water to power the milling equipment in the flour mill. A weir was built across the Kakanui River just below the intake to a water race. The water race is approximately 1 km long and passes through a rock tunnel before emerging into a race which passes under SH 1 and along the escapement to the mill now known as Clarks Mill. Just across the water race you will find a small memorial reserve dedicated to those who made the supreme sacrifice during the Great War 1914-18. In this reserve, near the listed coordinates, you will find the information you need to locate the cache. This cache is nearby. The cache is a bison tube with log book only, BYOP.
